Walter F. "Smeg" Ochal, 81, of Peckville, PA, died Friday, May 20, 2011 at Pocono Medical Center, E. Stroudsburg. He is survived by his wife the former Irene Malinowski. They had been married 55 years. Born in Peckville, he was the son of the late Andrew and Henrietta Segda Ochal. He was a graduate of St. Mary's Parochial School, Dickson City and Blakely High School. He served in the medical corp. in Korea. He was a life member of VFW Shopa Davey Post 6082 of Peckville. He was employed at Englehard Corp., Newark, NJ for 35 years. He was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Church, Piscataway, NJ and usher for 40 years. He is a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Peckville. He belonged to the Four Seasons Hunting Club, 10-100 Club, and Stalag 18 of Englehard Corp. He was a loving and caring father, grandfather, brother and friend who was an avid fisherman and hunter. He deeply enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and he will be missed by all. His family would like to thank Dr. Jack Stroh for his kind and considerate care.
Surviving is a son, Mark Ochal, Peckville; daughters, Christine Cryan and husband John, Pittstown, NJ., and Sandra Spencer, Davenport, FL; five grandchildren, John lll, Brielle and Robert Cryan and Arthur W., and Bethany Spencer; four brothers, Joseph Ochal and wife Marge, Bloomfield, NJ, John Ochal and wife Joanne, Hamburg, NY, Leonard Ochal, Linden, NJ and Myron Ochal and wife Judy, Hardy, VA; godchildren, Linda Zipay and Maryann Veno; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by brothers, Peter, Stanley and Hank Ochal and sisters, Florence Kowalski and Theresa Mazur.
The funeral will be Wednesday at 9 a.m. from the Frank T. Mazur Funeral Home, Inc. 601 Dundaff St., Dickson City, with Mass of Christian burial at 9:30 a.m. in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Peckville. Interment, St. Mary's Cemetery, Dickson City.
