Sylvia C. Brown, 79, of Ocean Township, died Monday, May 30, 2011, at home. She was born in Bath, Maine. Sylvia Brown graduated from Leslie College, taught second grade, volunteered for the Democratic Party and the
, and managed the children's pre-admission program at JFK Hospital in Edison. She tutored Russian Jewish immigrants in English. She was a member of Temple Neve Shalom, Metuchen, and Torat El, Ocean Township. A loving wife, sister, mother, grandmother, and friend, Sylvia Brown was always dedicated to those in need.
She is survived by her husband, Morris Brown of Ocean; two sons, David Hilary Brown of Ocean, and Alan Stuart Brown and daughter-in-law, Antoinette Smith of Woodbridge; and daughter, Patricia Keneally of Warren; six siblings, Ruth Gamer of MA, Edward Cogan of CA, Ida Levin of MA, Nathan Cogan of OR, Ann Orkin of MA, and Janet Grafton of FL; a grandson, Enmanuel; and her beloved care-giver, Maud Quarmyne of Ghana.
A service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 2 at Temple Neve Shalom, 250 Grove Ave., Metuchen. Interment to follow at Beth Israel Cemetery, U.S. Highway 1, Woodbridge. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in the name of Sylvia Cohen Brown to the
