Alice Matthews

AGE: 91 • Aberdeen

Alice Matthews, age 91, of the Cliffwood section of Aberdeen died on Monday, Sept. 5, 2011 at Madison Center, Old Bridge. Born in Sayreville, she was a Cliffwood resident for the past 60 years. Mrs. Matthews was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, Sayreville, and was a member of the United Methodist Women and Workshop Ladies at the church. She was a former member of the Cliffwood Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary. Prior to her retirement, Mrs. Matthews was an admitting clerk at Perth Amboy General Hospital for many years.

She was predeceased by her husband, Theodore A. Matthews in 1997; her parents, Harry and Elsie (Guice) Herbert; her sister, Emilie Herbert, and her brothers, Harry and his wife Peggy, Clayton and his wife Emma, and Arthur Herbert. Surviving are her children, Theodore H. Matthews and his wife Barbara of Levittown, PA, and Donna Carroll and her husband Robert of Old Bridge; her sister, Lorraine Kahsau of Toms River; her grandchildren, Sybil Carroll, Erin Stanek, Linda Vasquez and Christopher Matthews; and six great-grandchildren.

Friends may call on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 at the Whiteley Funeral Home, 241 Bordentown Avenue, South Amboy. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday at 10:00am at the Funeral Home, with interment at Christ Church Cemetery, South Amboy. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the Trinity United Methodist Church Building Maintenance Fund, 815 Bordentown Avenue, South Amboy, are appreciated.
