Richard E. "Rick" Wheeler

Richard E. "Rick" Wheeler, 62, of Point Pleasant passed away on Saturday, Nov. 26, 2011 at Ocean Medical Center in Brick. Richard was born in Neptune and lived in Brielle before moving to Point Pleasant in 2003. He was a Manasquan High School graduate and received a B.A. in Political Science from Villanova University. Rick was a Sergeant in the U.S. Army and served as a Ranger with the 1st Calvary during Vietnam. For his service he received the Air Medal, the Army Commendation Medal, and the Bronze Star Medal. After his active duty he served in the Army Reserves for an additional 4 years. Rick worked as a financial planner and insurance broker for the past 40 years and owned his own business in Brielle. Rick was a member of Calvary Presbyterian Church in Allenwood, a member of American Legion Post 432 Spring Lake, the Brielle Chamber of Commerce, the Kiwanis Club, and was a past President of the National Association of Health Underwriters. Rick was an Eagle Scout, had earned the Silver Beaver Award, and was a member of the Order of the Arrow. He was involved with Brielle Boy Scout Troop 63 for 34 years and had served as the Scout Master and then as an Advisor. He was also the 2011 recipient of the Louis G. Matte Achievement Award.

Rick is survived by his loving wife of 4 years, Christine (nee Pyle) of Point Pleasant; his sons, Mark C. Wheeler and his wife Kim of Gibbsboro, NJ, Matthew S. Wheeler of Point Pleasant, Steven A. Wheeler and finacee' Petra of Brooklyn, NY; his stepsons, Shawn A. Liddick and his wife Katherine of Sayerville, NJ, Mark E. Liddick of Ocean Grove, and Scott T. Liddick and his wife Jenn of Ocean Grove, NJ. He is also survived by his mother, Josephine Ciricolo of Point Pleasant; his brothers, Gary and Eric Wheeler, Keith Haycock; sister, Adele Henning and four grandchildren, Bryan, Gianna, Natalya, Elijah.

Relatives and friends are invited to call from 1-4 and 6-9 pm on Wednesday, November 30th, 2011 at Orender Family Home for Funerals, 2643 Old Bridge Road, Manasquan. The Funeral Service will be conducted during the visitation at 8pm. Interment will be on Thursday at 11:30 am in Brigadier General William C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Wrightstown, NJ.
