Theodore Joseph Caliendo

AGE: 85 • Formerly of Newark, Iselin and Edison

Theodore Joseph (Jerry) Caliendo, 85 of Lumberton, North Carolina died Tuesday, July 17th at home. He was born in Newark on May 23rd 1927. He previously resided in Newark, Iselin and Edison before retiring to North Carolina in 1987. Theodore was a Veteran of the U.S. States Navy, serving during WWII in the Pacific.

Before retiring to North Carolina he was employed by P. Ballantine & Sons, Pabst and Anheuser-Busch. He held numerous volunteer positions and memberships including the Holly Birch Council #7225 Knights of Columbus in Lumberton, North Carolina, American Legion Post #471 in Iselin, New Jersey, Iselin Little League, Lumberton Optimist Club, Robeson County Fair, and volunteered at Southeastern Regional Industrial Center of twelve years.

He is predeceased by his parents, Elizabeth & Ralph Caliendo, Sr.; brothers, Emil, Vincent, Philip and Ralph Caliendo; sisters, Carmella Oliver and Sophia Kronert; and his first spouse, Frances Scriffignano.

Mr. Caliendo is survived by his wife, Mary Sedlak Hautz Caliendo; daughter, Carole Cerase and husband, William of Lumberton; son, Charles and wife, Monica Caliendo of Griswold, Connecticut; daughter, Cynthia Shapiro and husband, Robert of Windmere, Florida; son, Bruce and wife, Theresa Hautz of Edison, New Jersey; daughter, Heather Kaiser and husband, Michael of Pocono Lake, Pennsylvania; grandchildren, Susan Thalheimer, Elisa Carlucci, Joyce and Theodore Caliendo, Jason and Brian Shapiro, Mathew and Keith Kaiser, and Nicole and Ellie Hautz; one great-granddaughter, Gaida Thalheimer; also surviving a sister, Lenore Barella and husband Louis, and Ann Minieri.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 22nd from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the GOSSELIN FUNERAL HOME, 660 New Dover Road, Edison. Blessing will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 23rd at the funeral home. Burial to follow in St. Gertrude Cemetery, Colonia.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Parents Support Group, c/o PO Box 1857, Lumberton, North Carolina 28359.
