Jessica Bongiovanni

AGE: 25 • Manchester

Jessica Bongiovanni, 25, of Manchester, passed away surrounded by family on Sunday, Dec. 2, 2012 at Kimball Medical Center, Lakewood. The world in general and Manchester in particular, lost a special person on Sunday when Jessica Bongiovanni died unexpectedly after a long battle with cancer. Born in New Brunswick she was a lifetime resident of Manchester. She graduated with honors from Manchester High School and was a well-known and talented softball player and a less known but equally talented scientist. Jess went to Drexel University to pursue both areas. After 4 years, she again graduated with high honors and enrolled at the University of North Carolina where she earned her Master's Degree in chemistry. Following graduation, she entered a doctoral program for chemistry at Princeton University. Jessica was beginning her second year at Princeton when she was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma that resulted in the loss of her leg and intensive chemotherapy. Jessica played softball throughout her childhood and Division 1 softball at Drexel University. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, summers at the lake in Plummerville in Maine and playing with her dog Lucy. She was excited about her research at Princeton and especially looking forward to her upcoming wedding next September. Surviving are her parents, Kevin & Kathleen (Leppert) Bongiovanni; fiancé, Kristopher Swanson and his parents, Linda & Bill Swanson, 2 sisters, Katie Bongiovanni & husband Nick Hooten and Kelsey Bongiovanni & fiancé Jon Moroz; and maternal grandparents, Edward & Frances Leppert & many aunts, uncles and cousins. Memorial Mass is Thursday 11 AM at St John's Church Lakehurst. Cremation was private. In lieu of flowers please make memorial donations to Ronald McDonald House 405 East 73rd Street, New York, NY 10021, www.rmh-newyork.org/give or contact Nikki Margarites@212-639-0207.
