AGE: 85 • Avon by the Sea
William C. Schreck, 85, of Avon by the Sea, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2012, at his home. Mr. Schreck was a roofer and worked for Schreck & Waelty Inc. in Jersey City for many years before his retirement. Bill's family business created most of the cathedrals in Hudson County through the years. He served in the U.S. Army during WWII from 1944-1946. He was a graduate of St. Peter's College in Jersey City. He was a communicant of St. Elizabeth's R.C. Church in Avon and was an active member of St. Joseph's Catholic Club in Union City. He also was a stage hand for Veronica's Veil and had a love of photography and antique cameras. Born in Jersey City, Bill grew up in Union City before moving to Avon by the Sea in 1993.
He was predeceased by his sisters, Veronica DeLaura and Jean Sullivan. Surviving are his brother, Thomas Fanning and his wife Barbara of Shark River Hills and Thomas' 1st wife, the late Enes Fanning. He also leaves his 7 nephews, Thomas, Steven, and Edmund Fanning, William, Donald, and Paul Sullivan and Thomas DeLaura.
Visiting will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14 at the O'Brien Funeral Home, 2028 Hwy 35, Wall. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 15 at St. Elizabeth R.C.
