Louis Barrood, Sr. died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2012 at his home in New Brunswick. He was 96. Born in New Brunswick, Louis was an entrepreneur, businessman and devoted family man. As a child he worked in his family's grocery store on Ward Street where he learned early on the valuable lessons in business and customer service that would serve him for the rest of his career. As a teenager he would box at the neighborhood house and went his entire amateur boxing career undefeated. He was an infantry medic in the Aleutian Islands, Alaska during World War II. He was a charter member of VFW Clark Moetz Post #2319, Milltown and was also a member of the American Legion, Joyce Kilmer Post #25 in Milltown and the New Brunswick Elks Lodge #324. The founder of three city businesses, Barrood Real Estate Agency, Louis Barrood Worldwide Travel Agency, and the Barrood Insurance Agency, he ran for Commissioner of the City of New Brunswick in 1951, and in the early 70s Louis was director of the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Agency formerly located on Georges Road in New Brunswick.
He is predeceased by his parents, William and Nejeba Farhat Barrood and his brother, Edward Barrood. Surviving are three sons, Louis Barrood, Jr. and Michael Barrood both of New Brunswick and George Barrood and his wife Katherine of Belle Mead; a daughter, Elizabeth Barrood of North Brunswick; six sisters, Sr. Rose Barrood, Lulu Thompson and Maria Kerekes all of New Brunswick, Jennie Meseroll of Kendall Park, Adele Antonios of Melbourne, Florida and Grace Forrest of North Brunswick; three brothers, Abraham Barrood and Phillip Barrood, Sr., both of North Brunswick and David Barrood, Sr. of Somerset; three grandchildren, Joseph George, Olivia Grace and Adam Louis Barrood; his former spouse, Samia Hojeiban Barrood of East Brunswick; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 9:00 AM Saturday at Sacred Heart RC Church, New Brunswick. Burial will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery, New Brunswick. Visitation will be held at Sacred Heart Church, 56 Throop Avenue, New Brunswick on Friday from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Louis' name may be made to a favorite
