Gertrude Bass Martin died Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013, at McCarrick Care Center in Somerset. She was 81. Born in New Brunswick, she had lived there until 1954 when she moved to North Brunswick.

Mrs. Martin worked 29 years as a principal clerk for Middlesex County Superior Court in New Brunswick retiring in 1993. She was a communicant of Our Lady of Peace RC Church in North Brunswick. She also volunteered for the North Brunswick Public Library for 20 years, was a member of the Spanish-American Club of New Brunswick, the North Brunswick Senior Citizens, the VFW #2319 Ladies Auxiliary, Milltown and IOLA Council of Pocahontas, Red Cloud Council #2.

She was predeceased by her husband Felix Martin in 2002 and her parents, Philip and Anna Bass, who owned Phil's on Neilson Street in New Brunswick during the 1930's through the 1950's. Surviving are her daughters, Stephanie Martin of Franklin Park and Elaine Martin-Amodio and her husband Peter of North Brunswick; a grandson Nicholas Amodio; a sister Judith Jodon and her husband James of South River; five nieces and nephews and many great nieces and nephews and cousins. Funeral Service will be 10:00 AM Wednesday from Selover Funeral Home, 555 Georges Road, North Brunswick. A burial will follow at Van Liew Cemetery in North Brunswick. Friends and family may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 2-4PM and 7-9PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Gertrude's name to the , P.O.
