AGE: 84 • Treasure Island, Fla.

William Smith, 84, of Treasure Island, FL, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013. A husband, father, grandfather and friend that will be surely missed. His strength, compassion, and dedication to his family and friends defined him as a person. He was born in Matawan, NJ where he raised his family in Cliffwood Beach, NJ. Before retiring to Florida with his wife, Carla, of 58 years, he worked with Aberdeen Township. His true passion and dedication was his involvement for over 54 years with the Cliffwood Volunteer Fire Department where he served many roles including past Chief. William also served his country in the Army.

William was predeceased by his parents, William and Florence Smith. He is survived by his beloved wife, Carla Petersen Smith; his daughter, Carla Ann Burton and son-in-law, Bruce Burton; his son, William Smith and daughter-in-law, Dori Smith, with their three daughters, his beloved granddaughters, Kendal, Danica and Jayme Smith. His family was truly special to him and brought him years of love and devotion as did his many nieces, nephews and friends.

Family and friends are invited from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013, with a 6 p.m. service at Day Funeral Home, 361 Maple Place, Keyport. Cremation will be private. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, March 3, 2013 in Treasure Island, Fla. for his friends and family in Florida.
