AGE: 89 • Bridgewater

Philip J. Farah, 89, died on March 14, 2013. He was born in Newark, NJ on January 11, 1924 to his dear parents John A. Farah and Elizabeth Sayer. Philip was a Mailcarrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Newark, Bound Brook, and Somerville for over 35 years. He was Honorably Discharged from the Army of the United States as a Private First Class in Battery A 592nd Field Artillery Battalion in 1946. Philip entered active service in 1943 in World War II and served as a Gun Crewman, Medium Artillery and Sharpshooter Carbine. He served 9 months in the European Theater of Operations in England, France, Belgium, and Germany in World War II in battles and campaigns in Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central Europe. Philip fought in the 106th Infantry Division known as the "Golden Lion" Division that participated in the German offensive on the Allied Forces at the Battle of the Bulge in late 1944 and early 1945 during which the Division suffered 8,663 casualties and only a handful of men came home to America. He earned a EAME Theater Ribbon, Four Bronze Service Stars, Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Ribbon, and American Theater Ribbon. He was a kind, caring, generous person, and will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Philip is survived by his beloved wife, Linda Fracaroli Farah for 54 years; (16) loving nieces and nephews, Albert Farah, George Farah, Richard Farah, Brenda Carangelo, Simon Farah, Betty Farah, John Farah, Gary Farah, Jeffrey Farah, Monica Stapleton, Joseph Lomastro, Carol Pope, Mary Lynn Fracaroli, Anthony Fracaroli, Donna Fracaroli, and Susan Petniunas; (28) grandnieces and grandnephews; and (7) great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews. He was predeceased by his parents; (4) brothers, Albert Farah, George Farah, Francis Farah, and Joseph Farah; and his sister, Rose Farah.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, March 21, 2013 starting with a viewing from 8:30 to 10:00 am at the Bongiovi Funeral Home, 416 Bell Avenue, Raritan, NJ 08869, (908-725-1887) followed by a 10:30 am Funeral Mass at St. Ann's Church, 45 Anderson Street, Raritan, NJ 08869. Entombment in St. Bernard's Cemetery, Bridgewater, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) Memorial Program, P.O.
