AGE: 87 • Formerly of Somerville

Charles Kenneth Collins, 87, died on March 16, 2013 surrounded by his family. Visitation will be held 6pm-9pm on Wednesday, March 20, at the Cusick Funeral Home, Somerville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 9:30am on Thursday, March 21, at the Immaculate Conception Church, Somerville with internment to follow at church cemetery.

Charlie was born in Mahanoy Plane, Pennsylvania on July 13, 1925. Upon graduating high school he enlisted in the Navy and was a veteran of World War II, proudly serving in the Philippines in the Pacific Theater. After the war, he moved to New Jersey and was employed at Johns-Manville for 35 years. He married his wife Patricia Murray in 1954 and settled in Somerville where they raised two children, Patrick and Anna Marie. Upon retiring from J-M, Charlie was employed as a custodian at Immaculate Conception School and Church in Somerville. Charlie was a member of the J-M Quarter Century Club, the Knights of Columbus, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Ancient Order of Hibernians. He was also a life long Philadelphia Eagles season ticket holder and the Birds' biggest fan. He enjoyed vacations at the Jersey shore and Cape Hatteras and loved the times on the beach with family and friends. Summers in the family pool without "Chuckie" will never be the same. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather, who above all else cherished spending time with his family. He will always be remembered for his kindness, deep faith and gentle Irish nature.

Charlie was predeceased by his wife, Patsy and his brothers Joe, Ed, Tom and Gene. He is survived by his son, Pat and his wife Sue, of Branchburg, and his daughter Anna Marie Canize and her husband, Tony of Flemington. Pop Pop will also be missed and forever loved by his grandchildren, Katie, Tom, Shannon and Trisha.
