AGE: 84 • Sayreville

Louis J. Garbowski, age 84, of Sayreville passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 17, 2013 at his home with his loving family at his side. Born in Sayreville he was a lifelong borough resident. Before his retirement in 1984 he was employed as a cost accounting supervisor for E. R. Squibb & Sons in North Brunswick where he worked for 37 years. Mr. Garbowski was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War, where he was a language expert in the Russian language and was a member of Sayreville American Legion Post 211. Louis had attended Rutgers University and Syracuse University and was the last surviving member of Harmony Bells musical group, and was also a member of Sayreville Knights of Columbus Council 2061. Louis was a communicant of Saint Stanislaus Kostka R. C. Church in Sayreville where he was a member and past president of the Holy Name Society.

He is predeceased by his parents, Louis and Florence O'Such Garbowski and his step-father, Joseph Gallas. Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Julia Drwal Garbowski; his daughter, Patricia Zonkowski and her husband Frank of Sayreville; his grandchildren, Cheryl, Michael and Dean; his brother, Donald Garboski and his wife Leona of Sayreville and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Thursday 8:30am from the Maliszewski Memorial Home, 121 Main Street, Sayreville followed by a 9am Mass at Saint Stanislaus Kostka R. C. Church in Sayreville with burial to follow at Saint Stanislaus Cemetery, Sayreville. Calling hours at the funeral home will be held Wednesday from 2pm to 4pm and 7pm to 9pm. The following groups will hold services Wednesday at the funeral home: Sayreville American Legion Post 211 7:30pm, St Stanislaus Kostka Holy Name Society 8pm and Sayreville K of C 2061 8:30pm.
