Ms. Alberta Nash passed away on Friday, March 22, 2013 at the Robert Wood Johnson Hospital in New Brunswick, NJ. She was 73 years old. She was born in Duck Hill, Mississippi to Joe and Daisy Nash. During her high school years, Alberta loved to play basketball and was known as "Lightning." After graduation, she moved to New Brunswick, NJ where she worked in the Dietary Division at the St. Peter's Medical Center. Ms. Nash later worked as the receptionist and a counselor for the Middlesex County Economic Opportunity Corporation (MCEOC) for over 30 years. During her retirement, Alberta enjoyed taking trips to Atlantic City and playing spades with her family and friends.
Ms. Nash is survived by her daughter, Lolita McPhatter and her husband Keith, of North Brunswick and son, Patrick Nash and companion Renee, of Somerset. She is also survived by her brothers, Floyd Topps of Grenada, MS, Leroy Nash of Duck Hill, MS, Ulysses Nash of New Brunswick, NJ; sisters, Dorothy Nash of Duck Hill, MS and Betty McNeil of Detroit, MI; her 4 grandchildren, Redrick Robinson, Keyana Nash, Jasmine McPhatter and Jocelyn McPhatter, and 4 great grandchildren.
A funeral service will take place on Thursday at 11am at First Baptist Church of Lincoln Gardens in Somerset. Interment will follow at Franklin Memorial Park in North Brunswick. Friends and family may visit from 9-11am at church. Arrangements are under the direction of Gleason Funeral Home, 1360 Hamilton Street in Somerset.
