AGE: 99 • Somerset

Elsie Jane (DeStefano) Jones, 99, of Somerset, died Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at McCarrick Care Center, Somerset. She would have celebrated her 100th birthday on April 3rd.

Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, Elsie lived in Deerfield Beach, FL for several years before settling in Somerset. She retired from AT&T in New York City in 1975 after 25 years as a clerk. After retirement, Elsie travelled extensively both here and abroad and she was an avid cruiser. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. She was a member of her church's choir in Deerfield Beach. She enjoyed tending her gardens and she was a fan of both the Brooklyn Dodgers and the NY Mets. She also enjoyed her Friday afternoon martini happy-hour with her two sisters at The Outback of Deefield Beach.

The last of 13 children, she is predeceased by her first husband, James Jones, Sr. in 1962 and her second husband Leroy Jones in 1988. She is survived by her son James Jones, Jr and his wife Lorna, of Monroe Twp.; her daughter Kathleen Johnson of New Milford, CT; her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and; her former daughter-in-law MaryAnn Jones of Brooklyn, NY.

The family will receive friends on Thursday from 1:00 to 4:00 PM at Spotswood Funeral Home, 475 Main Street, Spotswood. Entombment will follow on Friday at 12:00 PM at Boca Raton Municipal Cemetery and Mausoleum, Boca Raton, FL.
