Obituary Condolences

Thomas James Meyer

AGE: 34 • Houston, TX

Thomas James Meyer, 34, of Houston, TX, formerly of Neptune, NJ, peacefully passed away after a courageous, uphill battle with cancer. He was born in Manhasset, NY, September 8, 1979, and lived in Great Neck, NY, until 1986 when he and his family moved to Neptune, NJ, where he attended Holy Innocents Grammar School, subsequently graduating from Christian Brothers Academy High School, Lincroft, NJ, in 1994. Following graduation from New Jersey Institute of Technology with a Masters in Civil Engineering in 2003, Tom then worked for Amec Construction and Efco Concrete during which time he demonstrated his abilities which allowed him to earn credit necessary to obtain his NJ State license as a Professional Engineer. In 2008, he and his wife Katarina and their two dogs relocated to Houston where he then worked as a PE for Baker Concrete and Gerdau. Tom's serious interest in all types of design and engineering projects began to show itself while he was in high school where he built and encouraged fellow students to construct Broadway-quality theater sets and, while living in New Jersey, his passion continued as he did work for Premier/Pegasus Theater Company (Lincroft) and Two Rivers Theater Company (Red Bank). While in Houston, he volunteered his time and talents with the non-profit County Playhouse organization. As an Engineer who could always find a way to overcome any type of construction obstacle, Tom's Master Carpentry skills allowed him to design and build his own furniture, custom bird cages, tool cabinets and many other things, which he often presented to other family members and friends, as well. When he wasn't actively involved with some sort of construction project, he enjoyed playing drums at home, as well as kayaking the rivers of Texas.

Tom is survived by and will be greatly missed by his wife, Katarina; his mother and father, Toni and Rich Meyer of Neptune; Katrina's mother and father, Micaela of Long Branch; and brother-in-law, Gustavo of Long Branch; his brother, Nick (Lauren) Meyer, Neptune; his sister, Christina (Josh) Stump of Eatontown; his nephew, Noah Stump; his niece, Reese Meyer; his grandmother, Gladys (Leon) Levonian of Dumont; his grandfather, Richard Meyer of Little Egg Harbor; aunts and uncles, many cousins, high school, college room-mate, & best man, Mike DeLeon; close friend, John Paul Stevenson and family and other dear friends.
