William Henry Raub, III, 86, passed away peacefully on Thursday (April 25, 2013) at Rahway Hospital. Born in Plainfield, he lived most of his life in Fanwood. Mr. Raub was a veteran of World War II, having served in the US Army in Nurnberg, Germany. He was employed as a subrogation specialist with Allstate Insurance for many years before retiring. In 1987, he founded Cirrus Ventures, a model airplane business manufacturing Australian parts. He was an active member of the World Miniature Warbird Association, the East Coast Indoor Modelers, the Round Valley Radio Control Club, and a life member of the Academy of Model Aeronautics. He loved going with his friends to fly airplanes at the Sod Farm, Lakehurst and the Armory. Mr. Raub was teaching his grandson, William M., how to fly airplanes and helicopters. He had also worked part-time for F&A Machine in Middlesex. He will be greatly missed by all that knew and flew with him.
He is survived by his son, William H. Raub, IV of Rolla, MO; his daughter, Kathy J. Tinnes (and her husband, Robert J.) of Martinsville; his grandchildren, Michelle L. Tinnes, Robert J. Tinnes, Jr. and William M. Tinnes; and his former wife, Jean A. Adami of Middlesex. He was predeceased by his daughter, Debra L., who died in 1982.
Services will be held at Memorial Funeral Home, 155 South Ave., Fanwood, on Friday at 11 AM. Interment with Military Honors will follow at Hillside Cemetery.
