James Vincent Cassino, Jr., 90, born April 14, 1923 passed away June 12, 2013. He was a dearly loved husband and father. James was born and raised in New Brunswick and resided in Milltown for 50 years.
A graduate of St. Peter's School in New Brunswick, he was active in sports as a pitcher in the Varsity Baseball League in New Brunswick and North Brunswick. He also coached basketball in North Brunswick. James was a US Navy veteran serving during WWII in the Pacific as a Gunners Mate aboard the LCSL(L) 74. He received the Philippines Battle Star and Okinawa Battle Star.
He served in the Gulf of Mexico Patrol and the Mine Sweeping in the China Sea. After his retirement as proprietor of Ned's Market in North Brunswick, having worked there for 40 years, he did woodworking and was an avid fisherman and gardener. He was a communicant of Our Lady of Lourdes RC Church in Milltown and was a member of the Milltown Senior Citizens Club and AARP Chapter #3885 in North Brunswick. He and his wife loved traveling the United States & Canada. They enjoyed going to Atlantic City for "therapy". They were married for 67 happy years.
Predeceased by his parents Margaret Hoagland Cassino and James. Vincent Cassino, Sr., sisters, Margaret Howlin, Marie Witt, Helen Cassino and brother Thomas Cassino, "Jim" is survived by his wife, Philomene "Phil" and daughter Alice and her husband Roger Ferguson of Vero Beach FL, and many nieces, nephews, relatives and dear friends.
The family will receive friends at the Bronson & Guthlein Funeral Home of Milltown, Sunday 2-4 & 6-8 pm. Funeral Mass, Monday 10am at Our Lady of Lourdes RC Church, Milltown, NJ.
