George Cosmo Hooker, of Pawleys Island, passed away at his home on June 25, 2013 in the presence of his beloved wife Gertrude after a long illness. George was born to Eulalia and George Hooker in Queens Village, NY in 1923. He attended RCA Institute and Monmouth College, West Long Branch, NJ where he earned his degree in electrical engineering. He served in the United States Marine Corp. during World War II, worked for Martin Marietta and retired from the Federal Government in Fort Monmouth, NJ. During this time he married his wife Gertrude Barry from Brooklyn, NY in 1974. Upon early retirement George studied to become a deacon in the Catholic Church. He was ordained for the Diocese of Trenton, NJ on his birthday in 1984. He served in this capacity at Holy Family Church in Union Beach, NJ until he and his wife retired to Pawleys Island in 1999.

He is survived by his wife Gertrude Hooker; nieces Valerie Erb Oakland (Martin), Arlington, VT; Elaine Erb Marion (Joseph) Chester, NY; nephew Robert Erb, Bennington, VT; sisters-in-law Ursula Erit, Madeline Mullane (John), Agnes Barry, Arlene Murphy (Vincent); brother-in-law Hugh Barry (Elaine), 53 nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister Viola (Bonnie) Erb.

A Memorial Mass will be held at Precious Blood of Christ Catholic Church on Wednesday July 10 at 11 am followed by Inurnment at PBOC Columbarium. The family invites everyone to a repast in the Parish Life Center after the service. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to InCare Home Health and Hospice, 4685 Hwy 17 S.
