AGE: 99 • South Amboy

Santa Maria "Sadie" Tarallo Ruszala, 99, of South Amboy died June 30, 2013, at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel, surrounded by family. Born in South Amboy, she lived there all of her life. A devoted homemaker for most of her life, Sadie also worked at Komar & Sons, South Amboy. She was a lifelong communicant at St. Mary's R. C. Church, South Amboy, and was a member of the South Amboy Senior Citizens and a former member of the Sacred Heart Senior Citizens.

Sadie was a talented cook and baker, making everything from scratch. She made wonderful lasagnas, eggplant parmesans, pumpkin pies, and Italian cookies. Sadie and her husband Terry enjoyed gardening and canning huckleberries, tomatoes, figs, pears, and peaches. Sadie will be missed by her many family and friends. Daughter of the late Samuel and Carmella Tarallo, she was also predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Anthony J. "Terry" Ruszala, Sr., who died in 1998, her brothers, Anthony and Frank Tarallo, and her sisters, Anna Ruskuski Grispino and Julia Kolakowski. She is survived by her children, Frank (Susan) of Upstate New York, Carmelita of Old Bridge, Anthony, Jr., (Cynthia) of Edison, Thomas (Antonia) of Virginia, and John (Leanora) of Parlin; her brothers, Joseph and Salvatore Tarallo; her sisters, Frances Sobush, Carmelita Rondesko and Gloria Jean Hourahan; grandchildren Christina Felice, Melissa Bene, Lauren Ruszala, Anthony Ruszala, Michael Ruszala, Nicholas Ruszala, and step grandchild Salvatore Bastedo and family. Sadie is also survived by many nieces and nephews, cousins, and grandnieces and grandnephews.

Friends and family may visit on Tuesday July 2, 2013 from 2:30 PM to 7:00 PM at The Gundrum Service "Home For Funerals," 237 Bordentown Avenue, South Amboy. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Wednesday at 9:30 am at St. Mary's Church, South Amboy. Interment will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Parlin.
