John Oeser Obituary
AGE: 61 • Island Heights
John H. Oeser, 61, of Island Heights, passed away on Saturday, November 2, 2013 at home surrounded by his loving family. Born in Lakewood, he lived in Toms River before moving to Island Heights in 1985. He worked for Fedway Gateway-Perrone Distribution Company in Mt. Laurel as a sales representative for the past 24 years.
For over 40 years John "Johnny O" enjoyed performing music from high school dances to show bands, from Miami Beach's famous Fontainebleau Hotel to the stage at the Stone Pony, and he loved being a band member of Timepiece and Boccigalupe and The Bad Boys and others throughout his musical career. He also enjoyed riding his Harley with his friends. John was an amazing husband, father, brother, grandfather, coach and friend who was loved by many. He was a source of inspiration and will be sorely missed by all who knew him. He was predeceased by his parents John and Sarah Oeser. Surviving are his devoted wife of 29 years Janice (Van Nortwick) Oeser; his loving daughters Erin McGowan and her husband Richard of Toms River and Caitlin Oeser and her longtime boyfriend Jamie Tierney of Island Heights; and two beloved sisters Jeannie Oeser-Williams and her husband Henry of GA and Jami Nikles and her fiancé Dana Eubank of VA. "Spike" will be missed by his cherished grandsons Richard and Rylie.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 6, 2013 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm at Anderson and Campbell Funeral Home, 703 Main St., Toms River. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, PO Box 27106, New York, NY 10087-7106 or at www.mskcc.org/giving in John's memory. Cremation will be private. It's been over a year since John passed. I didn't see him often throughout my post-musician years but there where times when, as musicians and friends, our lives intersected in very meaningful ways that fostered a very deep, particular kind of bond. When a person like that passes on, you become accustomed to them not being there but you always feel their absence.

John was always the front man, never complained, never kvetched. I can't recall him ever saying a negative word. Would always keep the party going with his laugh. Will miss John.

When John would testify (sing), all was right in our little world. I will forever remember his sense of humor and his generosity. John's devotion to his family has no peer. I have fond memories of many parties in "The Dome". God bless the Oeser family.

I was in Portland OR about 2 months ago, and a familiar song came on on the Muzak of the brew pub I was at. I listened to the intro, and remembered John singing the song so well- The Allman Brothers- "Not my Cross to bear" The news of his death saddens me deeply, My sincere condolences to John's family- Dennis McGrath

To John's Family and friends, I had infrequent times in recent years with John, but he was always a great guy and music lover. For the shore music family, he always helped others and did many benefits and remember The Guinea Gigs at Deep Hollow Park where I always asked him to play "Soul Shoes," even with Graham Parker there!

John: You always had a smile on your face. And you always came over to thank us for our support of the band. It was always with that cheshire cat smile!!!!!! And when you sang it was always as that "smiling energetic entertainer" I'm glad that I got to see you sing the two last warm dates in September with Timepiece on Woody's deck. Timepiece will always be my favorite band with you as one of the leads. One time that comes to mind was last year of you jumping on the bar at Sunsets singing Unchain My Heart. I am so sorry to hear of John's passing....although I did not know John very well, a long time ago he was my chemistry partner at South and he always made class time very interesting and I have never forgotten him...especially when he would almost blow up our classroom, because he liked doing things his way. Oh John , I miss you already, once again because of your generosity and love of children, my grandchildren won top prize for their school fund raiser because you bought 6 pizza kits with 3 pizzas in each kit because your grandsons love it so much and here they wait for your grandsons to eat.
