Helen Ostaszewski passed away on Monday, Dec. 23, 2013 with family at her side. Helen came to the United States from Poland via Ellis Island in 1922. Her family settled in New Haven, CT., where she grew up. Helen had three siblings, Jane, Irene and Ted. After marrying Steve Ostaszewski, Helen moved to Bayonne where she raised her five sons, Steve, Larry, Bobby, Ted and Jimmy. Helen also spent many years residing in Oakhurst and West Long Branch.
Helen had many interests. She was an artist who enjoyed painting, fashion and the theater. She also loved to travel, watching professional sports, and she read the New York Times every day. Throughout her life, Helen consistently demonstrated optimism, independence and integrity. She was a role model for all members of her family. Helen handled recent illness and passed away with the same courage, strength and dignity that she had exhibited throughout her life.
Helen Ostaszewski placed great value on family. She leaves behind her brother and best friend, Ted Modzelewski, who lives in New Haven, CT, and her sister, Irene who resides in Atlanta. She also leaves behind her five sons. Steve lives in Bayonne, Larry resides in Hillsborough with his wife Nancy and two children, Brad and Courtney. Helen's son Bobby lives in Bayonne with his wife Edna. Their two children, Stephen and Lauren reside in California. Ted Ostaszewski lives in Brick with wife Patty and daughters, Lindsey and Jennifer. Finally, Helen's youngest son Jimmy resides in Bayonne with wife Linda and their daughters, Jillian and Jamie.
The family will have a private service to respectfully honor this exceptional woman.
