Edward J. Obal, Sr., died Thursday, January 2, 2014, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, New Brunswick. He was 77. He was born on January 1, 1937, in Garfield, NJ, to Michael and Wanda Kowalska Obal. He resided in Passaic until 1951, and then moved to East Brunswick, where he attended South River High School. He moved to Spotswood 12 years ago. He was a supervisor at Kimberly Clark in Spotswood, where he worked for 13 years. He then was a partner/owner of Obal Landscaping, which is now owned and operated by his son, Edward Jr. A US Air Force veteran, he served during peacetime from October 5, 1955 to October 5, 1959, and was awarded the Good Conduct Medal. Mr. Obal was a communicant of Immaculate Conception Church, Spotswood.
He was predeceased by his sister, Adele Eichele. Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Teresa Dominiecki Obal of Spotswood; his son, Edward J. Obal, Jr. and his wife Suzanne of Monroe Township: his daughter Patty Obal Rishi and her husband Raju of Manalapan; grandchildren, Cindy, Brandon, Ryan and Jenna Rishi; and siblings, Frank Obal of East Windsor, Helen Raymond and her husband Fred of Toms River, Michael Obal and his wife Kathy of Port Richey, FL, and Joseph Obal and his wife Barbara of West Melborune, FL.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, 9:30 AM, at The BRUNSWICK MEMORIAL HOME, 454 Cranbury Road, East Brunswick, followed by a 10:15 AM Mass of Christian Burial at Immaculate Conception Church, Spotswood.
