Robert F. Marasco

AGE: 71 • Bernardsville

Robert F. Marasco, 71, died peacefully on Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014, at his home in Bernardsville NJ. Born in Jersey City, NJ, he lived in Bloomfield, NJ for many years. He graduated from Fairleigh Dickinson University and served in the US 101 Airborne Division, 5th Special Forces Group, the Green Berets where he attained the rank of Captain. During his military tenure, he was the recipient of the Silver Star, 6 Bronze Stars, and numerous additional medals, citations and awards. Honored by both the US government and the South Vietnamese government, he was also honored by the New Jersey State Senate for his service. He was the subject of several books, magazine articles and television interviews. After Captain Marasco's military service, he continued to serve his community. He was a member of the Bloomfield Planning Board, Executive Director of the Essex County Republican Committee, the Kiwanis Club, the Special Operations Association, and most recently served on the Bernardsville Housing Committee and the Somerset County Planning Board.

Bob was a quiet, modest man, liked and respected by all, and always a gentleman. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Paula; his beloved children, Stephen of Bernardsville, Robyn of Brooklyn, and her daughter, Bianca. He also is survived by his dear sister-in-law, Natalia Warburg and her husband, David, of Sebastopol, CA. He is remembered by his numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, and his many friends.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 1, at 3:00 PM at the Congdon-Overlook Masonic Lodge, 15 Morristown Road (Route 202), Bernardsville, NJ. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Bob's memory to Heartworks, 19 Route 202, Basking Ridge, NJ 07920 or the Bernardsville First Aid Squad, Box 745, Bernardsville, NJ 07924.
