Joseph Robert Scranton, 71, of Canon City, CO died Friday, Feb. 28, 2014. He was born in Allentown, N.J., raised in Jamesburg, N.J and resided in Monroe Township, NJ before retiring to Colorado in 2004. He was a graduate of Pennsylvania Military College (Widener University). During his career he was employed as Business Administrator for Monroe Township, Director of Finance for NJDCA, Business Administrator for the Borough of Matawan, and Road Supervisor for Piscataway. During his retirement he was owner of Lucky Find Crafts and volunteered as post commander for Fremont County Search and Rescue. Joe was a member of the Elks, Knight of Columbus, National Rifle Association, American Association of Wood Turners and a communicant of St. Michaels's Church, Canon City.
He is predeceased by his son, Joseph Robert II. Joe is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Virginia (Thompson); sons, Brian of Littleton, CO, and Shawn and his wife Laura of Manasquan, NJ; sisters, Colleen of Pahrump, NV, Renee Morgan of Monroe Township, NJ; a brother, Joel Timothy and his wife Harriet of Ocean Grove, NJ, and grandchildren, Joseph III, Megan, Emily, and Andrew.
A mass will be celebrated Friday, May 9, 2014 at 11am at St James Church in Jamesburg. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Donations can be made in Joe's memory to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
