Anne Devaney Obituary

Anne L. Devaney

AGE: 89 • Toms River

Anne Loretta Devaney of Toms River, New Jersey passed away peacefully at home on October 8, 2015 in the presence of her oldest daughter Diane. Anne O'Brien was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland on April 19, 1926. She emigrated to the United States as a young child, and grew up on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, attending Holy Name Elementary School and Cathedral High School. She married World War II veteran of the Army's 10th Mountain Division Francis J. Devaney, Jr. on September 9, 1950, and they soon thereafter moved to Pomonok Houses in Flushing, Queens, where they raised their four children: Diane Devaney of Toms River; Frank (Leslie) Devaney of San Diego, California; Karen ( Peter ) Timms of Clearwater, Florida; and Joan (Mickey) Spillane of Bronxville, New York. Anne and Frank were active members of the St. Nicholas of Tolentine parish in Jamaica, Queens. When their children graduated from college and progressed with their lives, Anne and Frank retired to Toms River, New Jersey, close to the Jersey Shore where the family had enjoyed their annual summer vacations.

Anne was preceded in death by her husband, and is survived by her four children and ten grandchildren, whom she loved dearly.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation on Sunday, October 25 from 3:00-7:00 pm at Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home, 26 Mule Road, Toms River, New Jersey. A funeral mass will be held at 9:30am on Monday, October 26 in the chapel at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, 130 St. Maximilian Lane, Toms River, followed by a graveside service at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, New York, where Anne will be laid to eternal rest with her husband Francis. My prayers are with your family. I had the pleasure of meeting Mrs. Devaney through my dear friend and her daughter, Karen. She was a part of several Christmas celebrations with my family in Virginia. Wonderful memories with such a lovely, kind, sweet woman.
