My heart is broken on so many levels. First for my daughter, Kiara, and her sister, Jen. Steve was a very unique and amazing dad. He loved his girls more than anything, except maybe Miss Piggy, lol. He was a very attentive father, and never missed an opportunity to be with them. He helped raise two beautiful, intelligent, courageous, strong, and independent women. He definitely instilled his wonderful, sometimes offbeat, but always funny, unique sense of humor in them. Ian grateful to him for teaching our daughter all he knew, and for giving her so much of his time and knowledge. I am proud and honored to have been the mother of one of his girls, and to have had the privilege to know him for 43 years. His passing is a life altering event for his girls, but because of the values and strength he taught them, they will get through this. They will never forget him, their hearts will always be missing a huge chunk out of them, but he will live on through them. I wish I could take away your pain and sorrow, Kiara and Jen. I love you both so much, I will miss your dad terribly.
My heart also breaks for the Palmatier family. To lose any family member is heartbreaking. To lose two in such a short period of time is gut wrenching. My heart breaks for all of you. He may have had a funny way of showing it, but he loved you all deeply. He was blessed with a strong family bond. You all stick together through everything life throws at you, That is something to be proud of. He was. Please know you are all in my thoughts and prayers.
And finally, my heart breaks for the rest of us, his friends. Steve was the best friend anyone could ask for. There isn't anything he wouldn't do for any of us. He had a huge heart, was very generous and giving of his time and help, and brought us all so much love and laughter. For me, he was my first love, an amazing friend, and the father of my daughter, Kiara. Throughout the years, we found our way back together 3 times, and our relationship changed with each passing day. We found ourselves sharing a love that is deeper than just us, we shared the love of a parent. We also shared a love for each other that was beyond the boundaries of being a couple. Steve was my friend. He was there for me when my grandmother and mother passed within 6 months of each other, and then when I gave birth to our daughter just 6 months after my mom's passing. He has been there for me ever since, even when my life spiraled. He was my anchor in that terrible time, and stayed my friend through it all, even after we were no longer a couple. I asked him once, a few years ago, why he was always there for me, and he told me he promised my mother on her death bed that he would always be there for me, that he would take care of and watch over me. Steve, you never broke your promise, and I know you're not going to now. I know you are still watching over me, your children, your family, and friends from Heaven, and I know you will always be here, in our hearts and our memories. You had a larger than life personality, and a warped sense of humor that we will all miss. I love you, my friend. Always have and always will. You left one heck of a legacy here on earth. Thank you for your love and your friendship. I miss you. Give both our moms a hug and a kiss from all of us.
