Mae Phillips Obituary

Mae T Phillips

AGE: 107 • Forked River

Mae Phillips (nee DenBleyker), age 107, formerly of Forked River, passed away on Friday, May 12, 2017, at St. Martha's Manor, Downingtown, Pennsylvania. Mae was born on September 9, 1909. She resided in Caldwell, before moving to Lanoka Harbor in 1948. In 1998, she relocated to West Chester, Pennsylvania, with her daughter and son-in-law.

Mae and her husband Henry owned Phillip's Home Bakery from 1941 to 1948. Upon moving to Lanoka Harbor, she and Henry opened Phillip's Produce Market, which they owned until 1969. Mae was a communicant of St. Pius X Church since 1954 and devoted her time to serving the Church. She was a past member, President and treasurer of the Altar and Rosary Society, Treasurer of the Social Club, and was associated with all Church organizations. For 17 years, Mae faithfully tended to the care of the sacred altar linens. She planned and coordinated countless Church fundraisers, from card parties and cake sales to auctions and Christmas Bazaars. However, Mae was most remembered for spending every Sunday morning "at the back of the Church" selling religious articles and raffle tickets.

Mae is predeceased by her husband, Henry, 1978, her daughter, Alice S. Everitt; and grandson, Michael Phillips. She is survived by her daughter, Mary and her husband Joseph Miller, of Collegeville, Pennsylvania; her son, Henry, of Holly Ridge, North Carolina; nine grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

A viewing will be held on Tuesday May 16, 2017, from 2-4 & 7-9 pm and Wednesday from 9:00 am until 9:30 am, at the Riggs Funeral Home, 130 North Rt. 9 (aka Main Street), Forked River, NJ 08731. A Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated on Wednesday May 17, at 10:00 am, from St. Pius X RC Church, 300 Lacey Road, Forked River. Interment shall follow at Good Luck Cemetery, Lanoka Harbor.

Our thoughts and prays are with you, Granny was a wonderful lady. I loved visiting with her and listening to all of her stories when she was child growing up, the bakery business and all the special
times we had at Shop-Rite. I can still picture Granny
Fixing the cards ,helping in the floral department and then coming back to the bakery for a little sweet treat. We love you Granny.
