LEON — Ruth M. "Mac" Stephens, 82, of Clyde, Ohio, passed away Friday, Aug. 1, 2014 at her home. She was born March 12, 1932, in Leon, the daughter of the late Tobias and Roxie (Burgess) Mattox.
Ruth was a homemaker who was a Blue Bird and Camp Fire leader. She was a 1949 graduate of Point Pleasant High School.
She was a member of First Baptist Church in Clyde, where she taught Sunday School and held several other positions. She was also a member of Green Springs VFW Auxiliary. Ruth enjoyed babysitting and especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her children William "David" (Lawrie) Stephens, of Reynoldsville, Pa., Kathy (Steve) Magers, of Bellevue, Ohio, Kristine Stephens, of Clyde, and Treva (Paul) Smith, of Clyde; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sister Faye Pullins, of Princeton; and longtime friend and Sunday School colleague Mary Lou Hamilton.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William Stephens, whom she married June 6, 1951, in Fostoria, Ohio; grandson William Greer Smith; brothers William Mattox and Earl Mattox; and infant James Mattox.
Friends will be received from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2014, at Foos Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 504 E. McPherson, Clyde. The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2014, at First Baptist Church, Brown St., Clyde OH 43410, with additional calling hours from 10-11 a.m. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memory Gardens in Clyde.
