POINT PLEASANT — Fern Newell Hartley, 93, of Point Pleasant, died Thursday, May 1, 2014, at her home. Fern was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church of Point Pleasant.
She was born May 24, 1920, in Mason County, the daughter of the late Verner M. Newell and Mary Gladys Barnette.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harley H. Hartley; her brother Aubrey Newell; sister-in-law Betty Sayre Newell; her son-in-law William R. Capehart; and niece Linda Newell Crump.
She is survived by daughter Sonja Capehart, of Bradenton, Fla.; daughter and son-in-law Catherine M. and Thomas H. Staats, of Point Pleasant; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law Art and Murlin Hartley, and Ethel Hartley, of Point Pleasant; five grandchildren, Lisa Dawn Capehart, Staci Nicole Capehart, Cathy Jo Hood, Thomas Christopher Staats and Kristen Ashley Staats; six great-grandchildren, Nadia Fern Capehart, Melanie Catherine Millsap, Kristopher Robin Hood, Dillon Harley Hulse, Justin Thomas Staats and Ashley Nicole Staats; and a nephew Lonnie L. Newell.
Graveside service and burial will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 6, 2014, at Creston Cemetery in Leon, with Pastor Jim Kelly officiating.
Services were entrusted to Crow-Hussell Funeral Home in Point Pleasant. In lieu of flowers, make donations in Fern's name to the Trinity United Methodist Youth Group, 615 Viand St., Point Pleasant, WV 25550.
