MASON COUNTY — William Evans Alford Jr. peacefully passed away from this world Tuesday, June 24, 2014, at Pleasant Valley Hospital. "Junior" was 91 years old and a resident of Mason County most of his life. He served his country during World War II as a member of the U.S. Navy with the Pacific fleet. He worked for the city of Point Pleasant and later for the state of West Virginia. He was born April 12, 1923, to William Alford Sr. and Elizabeth Sprinkle Alford.

He was preceded in death by his oldest son, Warren V. Alford Sr.; and two brothers, Joseph and John Alford.

Surviving are his loving wife of 61 years, Vesta Mae Wood Alford; son Raymond Alford and his wife, Stacha, of Cumberland Gap, Tenn.; grandchildren Warren V. Alford Jr. (Cheryl), and Jillian Alford (Ryan Slinde), of Point Pleasant, Cody Alford and Amber (Austin) Jarstfer, of Knoxville, Tenn.; great-grandchildren Ellayne Garrison, Caleb Gourley, Joshua Alford, Andrew Gourley, Aubrey Alford and Dawson Sanders; and great-great-grandson Evan Alford, all of Point Pleasant. Also surviving are his sister Mary Ellen Alford Spoor, of Crown Point, Ind.; friends Lois Sheppard and Polly Sheppard; and former daughter-in-law Wanda Oliver.

"Pa Pa" will be remembered and kindly missed by all his family and friends.

Services will be held at Deal Funeral Home in Point Pleasant with full military honors conducted by the American Legion Post 23 of Point Pleasant, and the U.S. Navy Honor Guard of West Virginia, on Saturday, June 28, 2014, at 1 p.m. with Pastor Ronnie McDaniel officiating. Burial will follow in his family plot at Siloam Baptist Church Graveyard on Big 16, Southside, W.Va. Friends may visit the family at the funeral home from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., prior to the service.
