Andrews, Howard - Charleston  
CHARLESTON, W.Va. — Howard Raymond "Ray" Andrews Jr., went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 25, 2015, at Willow Brook at Delaware Run. Celebration of Life services will be 2 p.m. Monday March 30, 2015, at William Street United Methodist Church, 28 W. William St., Delaware, Ohio, where a reception will follow. Military honors will be provided by the Delaware County Veterans Association. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services. Ray's final resting place will be at a later date on the banks of the Ohio River in Kirkland Memorial Gardens in Point Pleasant, W.Va. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Snyder-Rodman Funeral Center in Delaware.

Atkins, Cecil - Gallipolis  
GALLIPOLIS — Cecil Atkins, 89, of Gallipolis, and formerly of St. Albans, W.Va., died Sunday, March 29, 2015, at Holzer Assisted Living facility in Gallipolis. Born July 6, 1925, in Layland, Fayette County, W.Va., he was the son of the late Thomas Curtis and Mary Kosnoski Atkins. In addition to his parents, Cecil was preceded in death by his son, Dale M. Atkins; and a brother, Alfred A. "Joe" Atkins. Cecil graduated from Kingston High School and enlisted in the Army. He served in the 35th Infantry Division in France during World War II. He was on the front lines for a year when he was wounded, necessitating the amputation of his left leg. He received numerous medals and commendations for his service, including the French Legion Medal of Honor and a Purple Heart. His memoirs of his World War II experiences are on file at the National World War II Memorial and he was included in the 35th Division Living History Project. After his honorable discharge from the Army, he married Ruby Thomas Atkins on Aug. 1, 1946. He graduated from Capitol City Business College and began a career as an accountant, working for several small local businesses and later for the West Virginia Department of Highways as director of finance. He was a member of St. Peter's United Methodist Church and later attended Abney Street Church of God and Bible Center Church. He was the epitome of a Christian man and a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. His hobbies included golf and model railroading. Cecil is survived by his wife, Ruby T. Atkins; daughter Karen A. Wheeler, of Point Pleasant; daughter in law Vivian E. Atkins, of Anderson, Ind.; grandson Chris Atkins and his wife, Shallen, of McCordsville, Ind.; granddaughters Katherine M. Phillips, of Columbus, and Kalena Wheeler, of Point Pleasant; great-grandchildren Savannah, Logan and Calvin Atkins, of McCordsville; sisters Betty Price, of Beckley, W.Va., and Mary Ann Johnson, of Greenville, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, April 2, 2015, at Chapel at Cunningham Memorial Park in St. Albans, with Charles Thomas officiating. Friends may call the chapel Thursday between 1-2 p.m. Military funeral honors will be presented in the chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Union Mission, P.O. Box 112, Charleston, WV 25321; or to Appalachian Bible College, 161 College Dr., Mount Hope, WV 25880. Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home in Gallipolis is assisting the family. RACINE, Ohio — Betty Ann Carpenter, 85, of Racine, died Monday, March 30, 2015, at Ravenswood Center, Ravenswood, W.Va. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, April 2, 2015, at Racine United Methodist Church with Pastor Bill Marshall officiating. Interment will follow in Letart Falls Cemetery. Chapman, Robert - Syracuse  
SYRACUSE — Robert Ray Chapman, 80, of Syracuse, passed away on March 27, 2015. He was born on March 17, 1935 in Rutland, son of the late Lyle and Emma Chapman. Bob was a member of the Drew-Webster Post 39 of the American Legion. He served in the Air Force as a medic. Bob grew up in Rutland. He later moved to Syracuse where he resided for the past 48 years. He was blessed with loving and caring neighbors that were a large part of his life. He is survived by his daughters, Bobbi Kay (Perry) Hill of Racine and Lori (Roger) Sharp of Racine; grandchildren, Dean (Jayme) Hill, Janey (Scotty) Brinager, Autumn (Travis) Lisle, Jeri Hill (Evan Eastman) and Mallory Hill; great grandchildren, Cruz and Reed Brinager, Jace and Piper Hill, and Jorja and Jett Lisle; sisters, Bebea O'Dell and Jeannie (Roma) Cremeans; brother, Ed Chapman; sisters-in-law, Sandra Bretz, Candice (Roy) Oldaker and Sherry (Jack) Ritchie; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Beverly Hutton Chapman; brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Connie Kay Chapman; brothers-in-law, Gene O'Dell, Dan Wellman and Bill Bretz. Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 30, 2015 at 11 a.m. at the Anderson McDaniel Funeral Home in Pomeroy. Burial will follow at Rocksprings Cemetery where military honors will be presented by the American Legion Post 39. Visiting hours will be on Sunday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. POMEROY — Nondus Marie Hendricks, 89, of Pomeroy, Ohio passed away on March 26, 2015. She was born on January 21, 1926 in Hartford, W.Va., daughter of the late Albert and Lena Chapman. She is survived by her children, Roy (Pat) Hendricks of Thurston, Ohio, Steve (Denise) Hendricks of Logan, Ohio, Kay (Raymond) Rowe of Racine, Ohio and Rosemary Randolph of Long Bottom, Ohio; grandchildren, Jason (Betty) Rowe, Corey Rowe, Ronnie (Samantha) Hendricks, Cathy (Dave) Taylor, Jessica (Tim) Grove and DJ (Lisa) Randolph; great grandchildren, Terry (Gabby) Friesner, John Friesner, Josh (Hannah) Hendricks and Katie Rowe; great great granddaughter, Gracelyn; numerous step-children and step grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Wayne (grace) Chapman, Doug (Lourdes) Chapman, Joe Chapman, Ellen Goett, Peggy (Dick) Droddy and Mary (John) Gygax; sister-in-law, Pat Chapman; special niece, Brenda Arms; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Walter "Matt" Hendricks; daughter, Dottie Sue Hendricks; granddaughter, Lori Rowe; grandson, Mickey Randolph; son-in-law, Dorsel Randolph; brother, Sam Chapman; sister and son-in-law, Alberta and William Wagner; and sister-in-law, Effie Chapman. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at 1 p.m. at the Anderson McDaniel Funeral Home in Pomeroy with Pastor Brenda Barnhart officiating.
