Mary Jane Wood

VINTON — Mary Jane (Harmon) Wood, 76, of Vinton, passed away Saturday, March 8, 2014, at Holzer Hospital. She was born March 23, 1937, in Kanauga, Ohio, the daughter of the late Roy and Shirley Workman Harmon.

She attended Gallia Academy High School, was an employee of Gallagher's Drug Store in the late 1950s, Fulmer's Supermarket as a delicatessen manager for 17 years, and Kroger's as a delicatessen clerk. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, #375 in Vinton; a life member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 161 in Vinton; Kroger Retirees of Gallipolis; a past member of the Rebecca Oddfellows in Springfield,; Senior Resource Center in Gallipolis; and Grandpals.

She is survived by her only daughter, Cpt. Ret. Penny-Lope Alice Coon, and her loving life grandsons, Coon boys Hunter Aaron and Wyatt Adam, of Vinton; sisters Janice McNeely, of Industry, Pa., Alice Clagg, of Patriot, and Sandra Syrus, of Bidwell; brothers Harold Harmon and Roy Harmon, of Gallipolis; special previous brother-in-law Donald Syrus, of Gallipolis, and favorite kitty cat Blackie.

Mary Jane was preceded in death by her loving husband Clarence Alva Wood; sisters Carol Harmon, Joyce McCormick and Vaughine Godfrey; and brothers Lewis Harmon and James Harmon.

Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday, March 14, 2014, at the Waugh Halley Wood Funeral Home, 810 Second Ave., Gallipolis, with the Rev Jim Lusher officiating. Burial will be at Vinton Memorial Park.

Friends may call the funeral home from 6-9 p.m. Thursday, March 13, 2014. Order of Eastern Star and American Legion Auxiliary memorial will be conducted at 9 p.m. Special escort will be Hunter Aaron and Wyatt Adam Coon.

Pallbearers will be Harold Harmon, Tony Syrus, Larry Stephens, James Glassburn, Turley George and Scot West. Honorary pallbearers will be Kenny Bish and Robert Bish.
