Wilbur Slack

GALLIPOLIS — The Rev. Wilbur C. Slack, 90, of Gallipolis, passed away Monday, April 14, 2014, at Holzer Medical Center.

He was born Aug. 8, 1923, in Charleston, W.Va., the son of the late John Wesley and Elizabeth Ferrell Slack.

Slack was married to Marceline "Mary" Gray Slack, who preceded him in death on Feb. 6, 2013. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and was a member of Merril's Marauders. He was a retired Baptist minister and a member of Westside Baptist Church in Cleveland.

Surviving are one son John Michael (Sandy) Slack, of Gallipolis; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Margaret Goode, of Beckley, W.Va.

In addition to his parents and his wife, Slack was preceded in death by three daughters, Peggy Ann Starr, Debra Slack and Tammy Slack; one brother; six sisters; and one sibling in infancy.

Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, April 17, 2014, at Willis Funeral Home with the Rev. Joseph Pritchard and the Rev. Paul Pritchard officiating. Entombment will follow in the Chapel of Hope Mausoleum at Ohio Valley Memory Gardens. Friends may call at the funeral home prior to the service between noon and 1 p.m. Thursday.
