BIDWELL — Billy R. George, 81, of Bidwell, found a new home in Heaven as he peacefully passed from the arms of his family into the arms of his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, July 30, 2014, following a short battle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease).

He was a loving husband to his wife, Milly, and a loving father to his five children. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and attended White Oak Baptist Church and French City Baptist Church. He retired from Stauffer/Akzo Chemical Co. after more than 37 yearsof employment. Billy was a master woodworker and a great fisherman and hunter. He was also blessed to have many friends and wonderful neighbors.

In addition to his wife of 57 years, Mildred Denney George, he is survived by five children: Gregory George, of Bidwell, Nikki (Lewie) Bowman, of Gallipolis, Vicki (Eric) Mulholand, of Vinton, Rita (George) Writesel, of Columbus, and Robin (Chris) Wellington, of Bidwell; grandchildren Jeremiah and Matthew Johnson, Marea Cooper, Nathan, Richard, Evan and Annie Bowman, Tony George, Justin and Patrick Mulholand, Erica Jividen, Brandon and Brent Writesel, Kate Riley, Nicholas George and Megan Wellington; 16 great-grandchildren; and nieces Sharon Black, of Rutland, and Janie Crace, of Bidwell.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 3, 2014, at McCoy-Moore Funeral in Vinton. Burial will follow in Denney Cemetery in Bidwell, with military graveside rites conducted by Vinton American Legion Post 161. Friends and family will be received between 5-8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, 2014, at the funeral home.
