Clair N. Michaels Sr., 85, of Noble Street, Hazleton, died Monday morning at the Weatherwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Weatherly.
Born February 13, 1928 in Williamstown, Pa., he was a son of the late Harry and Alma (Brown) Michaels. He was a member of the Faith Assembly of God Church, West Hazleton.
Clair served in the U.S. Army
and until his retirement in 1996, he was employed by the Tobyhanna Army Depot in the maintenance department as both a boiler and an aviation mechanic.
He was a devoted Bible reader and a very active member of his church. He was a member and past president of the Hazleton chapter of the Full Gospel Businessman's Fellowship International, a member of the choir and the cleaning ministry and served as an usher. He was also a senior Boy Scout leader and served as a Royal Ranger for the Boy Scouts.
Clair also enjoyed playing cards, taking walks and spending time camping, especially at the Sianora Campground.
Preceding him in death, in addition to his parents, were his wife, Patricia A Michaels; grandson, Anthony Michaels; and brothers, Marlin and William Michaels.
Surviving are his son Kenneth Michaels, Elizabethtown; son Clair Michaels Jr., Nanticoke; daughter Tina DeFuso, Hazleton; son Gerald Michaels, Hazleton; son Leroy Michaels, Hazleton; daughter Lucinda Vogel, Rebuck; 14 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brothers Ralph and Alvin Michaels, both of Williamstown; sisters, Linda Challenger, Williamstown; Carol Deiter, Williamstown, and Kay Williams, Carlisle; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. from the Hazle Chapel of Krapf and Hughes Funeral Home Inc., 426 W. Broad St., Hazleton. Pastor Art Riddle of Faith Assembly of God Church will preside. A private burial will take place in the Fair View Cemetery in Williamstown. Friends may call at the Hazle Chapel on Friday from 10 a.m. until time of service.
