Ted Huffman Obituary

CHESTERTOWN - Ted Huffman, 88, passed away peacefully on April 30, 2017, in his Chestertown home, surrounded by his family.
Ted was born in Chicago in 1928, the oldest of four sons. His family moved to Bethlehem, Pa. when he was 12, and it was there that he met his future bride, Peggy Stoudt, in their eighth-grade dancing class.
He graduated from Kent School in Kent, Conn. and Yale University. He worked for H.E Stoudt & Sons Contractors in Bethlehem prior to serving in the Korean War as 1st lieutenant and company commander of the 802nd Engineer Aviation Battalion.
Peg and Ted raised their family in Villanova, Pa., where he was vice president of sales at General Refractories Co. prior to starting his own company, Adboard, Inc. He also served as a longtime president of the board of managers of the Overbrook School for the Blind.
In the past 30 years, Ted has lived in Kimberton, Pa., Albemarle Plantation in Hertford, N.C. and Chestertown, while continuing to stay actively involved with his own sales promotion company, as well as many volunteer activities.
A lifelong sailor, Ted spent many hours on Lake Michigan, Bay Head, N.J.'s Barnegat Bay, Albemarle Sound, and most recently the Chester River on the Chesapeake Bay. He was also an avid skier, who enjoyed his annual western ski trips with his pals well into his 70s. He rowed crew at Kent School and Yale, and returned to the sport 59 years later when he joined the Chester River Rowing Club.
Ted's passions were his family, his friends and his community. He created lasting friendships wherever he lived. He was loyal, generous, humble, quick to lend a hand and he always put others first. With Ted, you found a kind word, a big smile, a huge heart and a very wry sense of humor. His friends and family will remember him for his unique ability to create witty toasts, and deliver them with the precision of an accomplished performer.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Peggy; daughters Lindsay Smith of Birchrunville, Pa. and Julia Hollweck of Inman, S.C.; son Brack Huffman of Ambler, Pa.; six grandchildren, Brennan, Brack, Ruddy and Peyton Healy and Delaney and Tyler Huffman; brothers Francis Huffman and Robert Huffman; as well as sisters-in-law; sons- and daughter-in-laws; and many nieces and nephews.
A service will be held at Emmanuel Church, 101 N. Cross St., Chestertown, MD, at 11 a.m. Monday, May 15.
Memorial donations in memory of Ted may be made to Compass Regional Hospice, 160 Coursevall Drive, Centreville, MD 21617.
Arrangements by Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, Chestertown.
