Dean McKenzie Obituary

QUEENSTOWN - Dean A McKenzie, 62, of Queenstown, MD, passed away peacefully at home following a year-long battle with cancer with his wife of 33 years Joyce by his side on Nov. 4, 2018.
Born on Aug. 13, 1956, in Gary, Indiana, he was the son of Stanley (deceased) and Eulene (Lane) McKenzie. Dean grew up and finished High School in Hobart, Indiana.
It was love at first haircut with Joyce. After marrying only a few months later, the two relocated briefly to Florida and then on to St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands, where they spent the next 10 years.
After a decade of Caribbean life and multiple hurricanes, they returned state side to live in Denver, CO, for the next 10 years of new, totally different adventures. Dean worked in Denver in the private sector as a Project Manager for several construction companies.
Dean was then offered a position with OSHA, Dept. of Labor in D.C. (prompting a move to Maryland) and rose swiftly through the ranks to become Directorate of Construction. The job he was born to do, he embraced his calling with the Dept. of Labor and cherished every day he worked there.
His passion was working with his hands, and he and Joyce resurrected many properties over their 33 years in multiple places including Christiansted St. Croix, Denver, and here in Queenstown.
Dean loved his crazy adventurous vacations all around the world, great food, good close friends, Harley Davidson motorcycles, his new boat, and his beloved Newfie's, cats and chickens.
Dean is survived not only by his wife Joyce, but also his mother Lane, sister Debbie, brother Paul, many aunts, uncles, cousins, dear friends and co-workers.
A Celebration of Life service was held Monday, Nov. 12, at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newman Funeral Home in Chester, MD, where friends and family gathered starting at 10 a.m.
Not a flower guy, Dean would have preferred a donation to Chesapeake Dogs and Cats (Tree of Life Sanctuary) in his name if you are inclined. The address to CDAC, 326 Wye Mills Road, Queenstown, MD 21658.
