Donald Colclasure Obituary

Donald E. Colclasure, 89, of rural Jacksonville, died Monday, Feb. 4, 2013, at his winter home in Cape Coral, Fla.

He was born Aug. 16, 1923, in Xenia Township, Clay County, the second son to Lowell Lee and Chloe M. Walker Colclasure. He married Jessie Irene Brown in 1947. They enjoyed 59 years of marriage until her passing in August 2006.

Mr. Colclasure is survived by five children, Leslie (husband, Ron) Montwid of Lakeland, Fla., Lynne (husband, Gene) Hull of Quincy, Kip (wife, Jamie) Colclasure of Jacksonville, Debbie (husband, Thomas) Bires of Seminole, Fla., and Doug Colclasure (companion, Debbie) of St. Louis; 14 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister, Shirley (husband, Bill) Fuqua of Mount Sterling; and one brother, Bill (wife, Arlene) Colclasure of Arenzville. He was preceded in death by one son, Donald M. "Butch" Colclasure.

Mr. Colclasure graduated from Jacksonville High School in 1941 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He entered preflight training in July 1942, and received his wings in December 1943. He immediately transferred to the U.S. Marine Corps and was stationed at Pearl Harbor for 22 months until his discharge in the fall of 1945. As a Marine reservist, he was recalled for the Korean War in 1952 and discharged in 1954. Following his service, he resumed operation of his salvage and auto body business with his brother Clytus, and continued there until 1969.

Following his retirement, Mr. Colclasure and his wife enjoyed bicycling extensively across Europe and the United States. Other hobbies included gardening, watching the St. Louis Cardinals and wintering in Florida.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Williamson Funeral Home, with burial at Diamond Grove Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 5-7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to Cass-Schuyler Area Hospice, Hope Hospice of Lee County, Fla., or VFW Post 1379. Condolences may be left for the family online at www.airsman-hires.com.
