Letha Laverne Dupoy, 87, of Rushville, passed away at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 2, 2013, at McDonough District Hospital in Macomb.
She was born April 4, 1925, in Bainbridge Township, Schuyler County. She was a daughter of the late Ephraim and Irene Newingham Kirkham. She married William Ross Dupoy on May 6, 1943, in Rushville. He preceded her in death Oct. 5, 1990.
She is survived by one son, William R. Dupoy and wife Rhonda of Rushville; two daughters, Janet Luparell and husband Tony of Springfield and Lynn Carroll of Beardstown; two brothers, Edgar Kirkham and wife Joan of Beardstown and John Kirkham and wife Ruth of Jacksonville; four sisters, Sara Kruse and husband Dale of Beardstown, Glenna Little and husband Robert of North Fort Myers, Fla., Vada Downs of Rushville and Zelda Bishop and husband Harold of Lockport; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by one daughter, Lois McMillan; one grandson, John McMillan II; one sister, Gladys Kirkham; six brothers, Roy, Henry, Ephraim, Desmond, Robert and Verlin "Bud" Kirkham.
Letha was the past treasurer of the VFW Auxiliary and past secretary of the Schuyler American Legion Auxiliary Unit 4. She was a lifelong member of the Cooperstown Christian Church. Letha was also a dedicated military wife always supporting her husband during his long Army career. During World War II, while her husband was overseas, she worked in the munitions industry in Jacksonville, making .50-caliber shell casings. She enjoyed all the local festivals, live music, karaoke and spending time with her extended family.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Worthington Funeral Home in Rushville, with the Rev. Rob Kirkham officiating. Interment will follow at Rushville City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Schuyler County Sheriff's Big Buddy Program.
