Hal McLaughlin Obituary

Hal Leroy McLaughlin, 78, of Winchester, passed away suddenly Saturday evening, Oct. 26, 2013, at Passavant Area Hospital in Jacksonville.

He was born March 13, 1935, in Winchester, the son of the late William Allen and Hazel Henry McLaughlin. He married Eva Jo McDonald on Dec. 23, 1956, at the First Christian Church in Winchester.

Hal was a 1953 graduate of Winchester High School. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army Signal Corp, was trained as Morse Interceptor and was stationed in Germany for over two years.

Hal was employed by the United States Postal Service for 37 years. He was a member of the First Christian Church; the Winchester American Legion, where he was active with the Honor's Detail; and had been a volunteer fireman and an EMT with the volunteer ambulance service. He loved sports and was a Little League coach, umpire and scorekeeper and was always in attendance as a fan and booster of the Wildcats and Cougars; especially when his children and grandchildren were playing. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. He enjoyed reading, jigsaw puzzles, camping, golf and studying Civil War history. However he was most proud of his family.

Surviving is his wife, Eva Jo at home; his children, Debbi (Gary) Scott of Jacksonville, Suzi (Ben) Kinser of Winchester, Judi (Dan) Greenhill of Peoria, Ariz., Shari (Leo) Anslyn of Winchester, Bill (Sherri) McLaughlin of Jacksonville and Phil (Karen) McLaughlin of Winchester; 17 grandchildren, Lara Fluhr, Mandi Chukin, Jessi Bigelow, Kati Borgens, Derek Grey, Angie Scott, Missy McMillen, Alexandria Greenhill, Andrew Greenhill, Trevor Anslyn, Cassi Anslyn, Zach Anslyn, Michael McLaughlin, Danielle McLaughlin, Nyki McLaughlin, Andria McLaughlin and Braden McLaughlin; and nine great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his brothers, Robert McLaughlin and Donald McLaughlin (surviving wife, Betty of Winchester)

A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday at the First Christian Church in Winchester. Burial will be at Winchester City Cemetery, where military honors will be conducted. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Tuesday at Coonrod Funeral Home in Winchester, where the family will meet with friends from 4-7 p.m. Memorials can be made to the Winchester EMS or the Winchester American Legion. Condolences may be left for the family at www.airsman-hires.com.
