Edward Clifton Peters, 86, of Waverly, died Sunday, June 23, 2013, at Heritage Health Nursing Home in Jacksonville.
He was born Dec. 12, 1926, near Waverly, the son of the late Ralph and Fern Harris Peters.
Mr. Peters is survived by a sister, Margaret (husband, Wendell) Sexton of Waverly; a cousin, Dale (wife, Janet) Brangenberg of Jerseyville; several nieces and nephews; and extended family, Gary and Bev Huffman of Waverly. He was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Henry; and a brother, Donald Peters.
He was born in Sangamon County and later his family moved to Waverly, where he attended school, graduating from Waverly High School in 1944. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army
, serving during World War II
. After his discharge from the Army, he moved to California where he worked for the BNSF Railroad, working there until his retirement. He then returned to Waverly to live his retirement years.
Edward was an active member of the Waverly United Methodist Church, rarely missing a Sunday, until ill health forced him into Heritage Health.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Neece-Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Waverly, with burial at Waverly East Cemetery. Friends may call from 12:30 p.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Waverly Rescue Squad, or to the Waverly Library.
