Edward Henry Ehlert, 81, of Milton, passed away Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013, at the Illinois Veterans' Home in Quincy.
Ed was born Sept. 14, 1932, in Winchester, in Scott County, a son of Benny and Emma Dopel Ehlert. He married Joyce Pearson on Nov. 30, 1957, in Neelyville, at the Lutheran Church. Joyce was the love of his life for 56 years and they did everything together.
Ed was a veteran of the U.S. Army
and served during the Korean War
Conflict. He was a member of the Pittsfield Legion Post 152 and always looked forward to the tame rabbit dinner held at the Legion. In his earlier years, he was employed at Hercules chemical plant as a plant operator retiring in 1996. Ed liked to fish the river and go hunting and was a member of Ducks Unlimited. He raised a huge vegetable garden every year along with a flower garden. Ed's greatest enjoyment was taking Joyce and the grandkids down to the creek in his ATV which he named "The Buggy." He was a very honest man in all of his dealings and if he gave you his word then that was the way it would be.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce of Milton; two sons, Edward Joe (Becky) Ehlert of Milton and Michael L. (Teresa) Ehlert of Maryville; and a daughter, Patricia L. Ehlert of Milton. Four grandsons survive, Zachary, Austin, Dalton and Jacob Ehlert; and a sister, Linda (Danny) Parker of Bluffs. Ed was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Richard Lee in 1961; and three brothers, Irwin, Herbert and Ronald
