George Edward Anderson(1935 - 2013)

George Edward Anderson, 78, of Pleasant View, died Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013, at his home.

He was born May 2, 1935, in Cass County, the son of Ralph and Edith Lancaster Anderson. He married Julia Wys Johnson on March 3, 1978, in Hernando, Miss.

Surviving is his wife, Julia Anderson of Pleasant View; his children, George (wife, Lynn) Anderson of Alton, Russell (wife, Julie) Anderson of Normal, Chris (wife, Kim) Anderson of Rochester, Minn., and Gail Self of Beardstown; his stepchildren, William "Bill" Johnson and Kevin Johnson, both of Metamora, and Lawrence (wife, Melissa) Johnson and Bonnie Turner, both of Meredosia; his stepmother, Evelyn Anderson; 21 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; one sister, Norma Jean (husband, Richard) Powell; and three half sisters, Joyce Jones, Kathy (husband, Jack) Bell and Mary (husband, Tom) Hammel. He was preceded in death by father and mother; one daughter, Debbie Johnson; and three brothers, Ralph "Tom," Donald Lee and James Anderson.

George served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He worked as a mate on tugboats up and down the Illinois and Mississippi rivers and was known to be an ace carpenter. He was a member of Bethel Community Church of the Nazarene near Arenzville. George enjoyed watching "Gunsmoke," fishing, old cars and traveling to South Dakota.

Funeral services will be held 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at Rushville Church of the Nazarene located at 621 East Washington Street. The family will meet with friends from 10 a.m. until the time of the services at the church. Memorials have been suggested to the family.
