Helen Paluska, 95, of Lewis Memorial Home in Springfield, and formerly of Waverly, died late Sunday evening, April 6, 2014, at Lewis Memorial Home.
She was born Aug. 19, 1918, in Adair, daughter of the late John Francis and Sarah Dell Bollinger Winston. She married Medill Paluska on Nov. 18, 1939, in Bowling Green, Mo., and he preceded her in death on Dec. 1, 2011.
Surviving is one daughter, Marsha Campbell and husband Terry of Waverly; one son, Richard Paluska and wife Jamie of Waverly; five grandchildren, Alissa Slinkard and husband Travis of Waverly, Alanna Lowder and husband Greg of Jacksonville, Leah Lyons and husband Chris of Waverly, Andrew Paluska and wife Brandi of Waverly, and Jake Paluska and wife Kara of Springfield; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and three sisters, Evelyn Yordy, Lillie Mae Schwalb, and June Ryan.
Mrs. Paluska was a graduate of Modesto Township High School in Modesto and aided her husband in farming. She was a member of the Waverly First Baptist Church where she was a deaconess and taught Sunday School for many years and was a past 4-H leader.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday at Waverly First Baptist Church in Waverly. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Waverly East Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Waverly Rescue Squad or to the Waverly First Baptist Church both c/o Neece-Airsman-Hires Funeral Home, 349 Tanner, Waverly, IL 62692.
