James E. "Jim" Vannier, 63, of Jacksonville, and formerly of Winchester, passed away late Friday evening, June 21, 2013, at his home.
He was born Sept. 5, 1949, in Decatur, the son of the late Bernard and Lucille Sams Vannier. He married Debby Miller on April 17, 1980, in Winchester.
Jim graduated from Bluffs High School. He served with the U.S. Marines in Vietnam, where he received the Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Purple Heart
Medal, Combat Action Ribbon and National Defense Medal. He worked in Physical Services for the Secretary of States Office for 20 years. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church, Winchester VFW
, American Legion, West Central Illinois Leathernecks and Teamsters Local 916. Jim loved his family and will always be a hero to his children and grandchildren.
Surviving is his wife, Debby at home; daughters, Amber (Mike) Kamp of Farley, Iowa, and Amanda (Justin) McEvers of Jacksonville; and son, Jamie (Casey) Vannier of Murrayville. Grandchildren, Kaylie and Mitchel Kamp, Piper, Mason and Celtin McEvers and Raelynn and Daniel Vannier; brothers, Bill (Kim) Vannier and Dan (Dawn) Vannier, both of Meredosia; sisters, Doris Vannier and Louann (Fred) Elliott, both of Jacksonville, Kathy (John) Brown of Vinita, Okla., and Angie (Bill) Kauffman of Bluffs; stepsister, Marnetta Gregory; and stepbrothers, Jerry (Linda) Sapp and Konrad (Barb) Sapp, all of Bluffs and Wendy (Carol) Sapp of St. Louis. Preceding him in death was his sister, Gloria Teaney; and two grandsons, Teason and Andrew Vannier.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Grace Baptist Church in Winchester. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery near Bluffs where military honors will be conducted. The family will meet with friends at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service Tuesday. Memorial contributions can be made to the Grace Baptist Church or the family.
