Louis R. German, 92, of Jacksonville, passed away Tuesday evening, March 4, 2014 at his residence. He was born April 13, 1921, in Morgan County, the son of Ernest and Bessie Stanley German. He married the love of his life Vera E. Leffler on August 26, 1940, in Bowling Green, Mo., and they were proud to have celebrated 73 years of marriage.
He is survived by his wife, Vera E. German, of Jacksonville; two daughters, Judy Osborne of Jacksonville, and Donna (Larry) Boes of Byron; five grandchildren, Bradley Boes, Brian Boes, Julie Frye, Vicki Sanders, and Kimberly Omalia; nine great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; and two sisters, Betty Schubert of Florida, and Shirley Nelson, of the state of Virginia. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Harold German, Wilbur German and Alvin German.
Mr. German had been employed as a meat cutter at the A&P Store, National Foods and retired from Jacksonville Foods on North Main. He served in the United States Navy
, in the Pacific Theatre, during World War II
. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Jacksonville. He loved to go fishing and hunting.
A funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Williamson Funeral Home with burial at Diamond Grove Cemetery. The family will meet friends from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the
