Robert Charles Unland, 68, of St. Charles, Mo., died Thursday, April 25, 2013, at his residence.
He was born July 5, 1944, in Beardstown, the son of Charles and Mary Belle (Reller) Unland. He married Ruth Ann Penrod, daughter of William and Roxie (Johnson) Penrod, in Metropolis, on Dec. 18, 1966, and she survives.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, Robert Darren Unland (wife, Jolene) of Durham, N.C.; two daughters, Kristi (husband, James) Mahurin of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Melissa Routt of St. Charles, Mo.; four grandchildren, Morgan and Bethany Mahurin, Austin Maschmeier and Hailey Routt; one brother, Bill Unland (wife, Michelle) of Beardstown; two sisters, Darlene (husband, Ronald) Deck of Hobart, Ind., and Dottie (husband, Terry) Gholson of Beardstown; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Bob graduated from Beardstown High School with the Class of 1962, and Southern Illinois University at Carbondale in 1967. He served in the U.S. Army from September 1967 to August 1969, and was stationed in South Korea from February 1968 to February 1969. He as employed at St. Charles Co-op as manager for many years and most recently he worked at Huber Farms Inc., in St. Charles, Mo., where he got to indulge in his childhood dream of farming. He was a member of Hope Lutheran Church and their Men's Club, the VFW
, Archery Club, STL Bow Hunters, the NRA and was a former longtime member of the Elks Club
. Bob loved hunting, farming, woodworking and traveling.
Memorial services will be held today at Hope Lutheran Church, 1975 Old Highway 94 South, St. Charles, Mo., at 11 a.m., with visitation beginning at 10 a.m. until time of services. A light luncheon will follow the services at the church. Memorial are suggested to Hope Lutheran Church Men's Group. Baue Funeral Home of St. Charles, Mo., is in charge of arrangements.
