Robert J. "Skey" Komiskey, 65, of Galena and formerly Savanna, passed away Sunday, May 11, 2014, at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque, Iowa.
Funeral mass will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Michael's Catholic Church, Galena, and friends may gather after 9:30 a.m. at the church. Burial will be at the church cemetery and military honors will be accorded graveside by the Galena VFW
Post 2665 and American Legion Post 193. A gathering will be held 3-7 p.m. Friday at the Furlong Funeral Chapel, Galena, where a parish rosary will be recited at 3 p.m. Cremation rites have been accorded.
He was born May 5, 1949, in La Crosse, Wisconsin, the son of LaVern and Margaret (Rieber) Komiskey. He graduated in 1967 from Savanna High School. Skey served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War
from 1968 until his honorable discharge in 1970. He was united in marriage to Virginia "Ginger" Keehner on Nov. 3, 1978, and she survives. Skey worked for the telephone company and Interstate Power Company/Alliant Energy until his retirement. He enjoyed gardening, canning, camping and traveling to state and national parks which took him from coast to coast. He was a talented craftsman, building everything from music boxes to most of the house in which lived and raised his family. Bob was a member of the Galena Fire Department, Elks Lodge
, St. Michael's Church and was the current commander of VFW Post 2665. His greatest joy in life came from his family especially his time spent with his five grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife; three daughters, Emily (Jason Getz) Komiskey of St. Charles, Missouri, Christine (Patrick) Busker of Freeport, and Jennifer (friend Ricky Crites) Komiskey of Bend, Oregon; his five grandchildren, Harmony, Sierra, Kaia, Aurora and Oliver; two sisters, Carolyn (Stanley Fosdick) Komiskey of Argo Fay, Mary Ellen (Jon) McGannon of Bremmerton, Washington; four brothers, Jim Komiskey of Lanark, Dave (Marj Jackson) Komiskey of Savanna, Rick Komiskey of Sarasota, Florida, and Paul Komiskey of Loves Park. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Thomas Komiskey; and a sister in-law, Diane Komiskey.
