William J. "Bill" Knapp, 83, of Winchester, passed away late Saturday evening, Dec. 1, 2012, at Illini Community Hospital in Pittsfield.
Bill was born July 27, 1929, near Winchester, the son of the late Chester E. and Adele M. Morton Knapp. He married Colleen Robinson and to this union was born their daughter, Teresa. They later divorced.
Bill was a 1948 graduate of Winchester High School excelling in sports. He entered the U.S. Army
to serve his country honorably. He then returned home to his life of farming and custom baling. He was an accomplished gunsmith reknown for his knowledge of firearms. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and the NRA.
Surviving is his daughter, Teresa Knapp Rust of Jacksonville; his sister, Kay Knapp Parker of Winchester; nephew, Chris (wife, Teri) Parker and great-nephew and niece, Cole Parker and Chaney Parker, all of Glasgow. Preceding him death were his parents; and an infant brother, James E. Knapp.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Coonrod Funeral Home in Winchester. Burial will be at Winchester City Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Memorials can be made to the Winchester First Christian Church or to the Winchester EMS.
